The African diaspora is enormous, with members throughout North and South America and the West Indies, and many others living in Western and Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Athough many of us only make up ethnic minorities in North America and Europe, we are majorities in Brazil and most of the West Indies. Together, Africans—at home and the diaspora—make up a substantial portion of the world’s population and have contributed overwhelmingly to the art, music, cuisine, and overall culture of the countries we inhabit.
I host an online radio program showcasing music from all over Africa and the African Diaspora. My show, Diaspora Sounds, highlights the musical contributions of Africans and their descendants to the music of the world. You can listen to the latest show on demand. You can also listen to the show at it’s regular broadcast time, 7:00 pm EST, on the African Internet Radio Network.
