Thanks for reading my blog, and for wanting to learn more about me.
I’ve never been any good at talking about myself so I’ll just put up some random stuff I’ve heard people say about me in different settings, like when I’m at the grocery store or walking down the street. It’s best if I let the people speak.
”Absolutely brilliant!! One of the finest minds in the world!!!”
“Most nights he doesn’t even feel like going out but after about eight or nine drinks, he can usually manage to have a good time.”
“Stunning! Breathtaking!”
“Hey, he EARNED that chip on his shoulder!”
“He’s got the chiseled physique of a Greek god!”
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s running this company someday.”
Just kidding. All the above quotes are totally made-up. Except one. Can you guess which one?
OK, here’s the real deal. I’ve spent the past 17 years trying to make myself at home here in DC. It hasn’t been easy at all to completely fit in. Maybe it’s got something to do with my being part Russian and part Sierra Leonean, part Muslim and part Jewish. Part stallion, too. That’s actually the best part. I’ve also never been good at conformity and obedience. And my honesty makes some people uncomfortable, usually when I say things like, “I fit most of the criteria for Narcissistic Personality Disorder.” Not sure why. What else? Ah! I think the natural resources of a country should be used to benefit the people of that country. Unless, of course, those people happen to live in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, or really anywhere outside Europe. In that case, those natural resources should be used to benefit wealthy corporations based in Europe and the United States. Also, people often accuse of being a conspiracy theorist, but I just ignore them. I know they’re just jealous of my intellect and rugged good looks.
There’s so much more, but you’ll have to learn the rest from reading the blog. Actually, that’s really about it. Not much more here.
But come back often anyway, and remember to leave comments.

modest - you forgot ‘modest’…
but seriously - i love the blog.
What about “I’m bringing puking back!” or “I was brilliant until that last martini!”
Nice blog…loved the post about the sagging scrota.
Hey! stellar blog… first time here and i’ll be back. you should come visit Neil’s cats soon (at their new digs across the river) and see if they still feel the cat mystic vibe. : ) xo, Cornelia
Hey, I just realized you have a blog. Nice job!
Hi Abdul,
I lurk on your blog quite often. It’s very enlightening and I think you have an interesting take on current events. As a matter of fact, I find it so interesting that I was wondering what you thought of this:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7103239.stm
I would love to know your take on it… I don’t comment, but I read almost every entry.
Hi tasha,
Thanks for reading and for leaving a comment.
I apologize for not having responded to your comment. I’ve gotten bogged down with work and a couple of other posts have been monopolizing my time.
My short un-researched answer is that I think it’s part of a concerted effort to discredit and intimidate journalists from covering the war objectively. This too ties in with our own prejudices, of course. I doubt it would have been so easy to detain a French or British journalist.
[...] Writings on the Wall Jump to Comments My good friend Abdul Kargbo, has put up an interesting post on all the photos he has taken on his camera phone in and around [...]
Hi there,
Myles here from Sneak Attack Media, an online media company in NY. We’re working with a very cool company called SnagFilms who are offering full length, award-winning films in the form of a widget—meaning that you can actually embed this little player into your website and offer these films directly to your readers for free. (Snag was just written up in the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and USA Today!)
We have searched the web for sites we think do a great job covering the topics that are also the focus of some of the films. Since there’s a natural fit with your site, so we’d like to invite you to open one of the first SnagFilms theaters with the captivating documentary, Africa Unite.
This film widget will of course help you attract and retain visitors (thus increasing your site traffic), but they also benefit the community. By showcasing this growing library of inspirational films, you will support an independent filmmaker and vital causes, while also increasing the time spent on your site by your readers, and adding another reason for new readers to visit.
The SnagFilms widget basically turns your website into a free online theater, with real films. The SnagFilms movie player does not require a desktop download like other movie players but instead efficiently streams the films. All expenses, including streaming costs, are covered by SnagFilms and there is no additional load on your servers.
Please check out the just-launched SnagFilms website here: http://www.snagfilms.com
Below is a bit of info on the film as well as a link to check out the trailer (and the actual widget with instructions on how to embed them.) Please feel free to contact me with any questions at all.
AFRICA UNITE is a singular and masterfully executed film by Stephanie Black that is at once concert tribute, Marley family travelogue, and humanitarian documentary, igniting the screen with the spirit of world-renowned reggae icon BOB MARLEY in its every frame. In commemoration of Bob’s 60th birthday, AFRICA UNITE is centered on the Marleys’ first-time-ever family trip to Ethiopia in 2005. Includes rare footage of Marley.
To embed AFRICA UNITE,
1)visit http://snagfilms.com/films/title/africa_unite/, 2) click SNAG on the SnagFilms widget
3) Click EMBED
4) click COPY and then simply paste the code into your site!
Again, please feel free to contact me with any questions at all. I hope we can work together to bring this compelling independent film to your readers!
Best,
Myles
